Mercury-free, tooth-coloured fillings β safe and nearly invisible
A filling is used when a tooth has a cavity (hole from decay) that is not yet too deep for a simple filling. We clean out the decay and fill the space so the cavity cannot grow any further.
At Tulip Kids Dental, we use composite resin fillings β the modern, tooth-coloured, mercury-free alternative to old silver (amalgam) fillings. These fillings match the natural colour of your child's tooth, so they are barely visible even to you.
Composite fillings are also safer β they contain no mercury, they bond directly to the tooth structure, and they preserve more healthy tooth than old amalgam fillings. This is the international standard for children's dentistry today.
We explain every step to your child before doing it β so there are no surprises and no fear.
Dr. Sayli checks each tooth carefully. Small cavities between teeth may need an X-ray to detect. Early detection means a smaller, simpler filling.
Small, shallow cavities may not need any injection. For deeper cavities, local anaesthesia is given β the child feels no pain.
A small instrument removes all the decayed part of the tooth. Only the decay is removed β healthy tooth structure is preserved.
A bonding agent is applied to help the filling stick strongly to the tooth.
The tooth-coloured composite material is placed in the cavity in layers, hardened with a bright light, and then shaped so it feels natural when the child bites.
Silver amalgam fillings contain mercury and are being phased out worldwide. At Tulip Kids Dental, we use only mercury-free composite fillings for all children. These are safer, better-looking, and require less removal of healthy tooth.
15β30 minutes for most fillings. Sometimes two small fillings are done in one visit. We never rush.
Yes. Small cavities are painless β they only hurt when they reach the nerve, which means the damage is already severe. Treating a small cavity now means a simple 20-minute filling. Waiting means pulp therapy or extraction later.
Usually just one visit per filling. For multiple cavities, we may spread them across 2β3 visits so the child does not get tired or uncomfortable.
